Cyberbullying is a phenomenon of it’s own. People hide behind the anonymity of cyberspace and this gives them opportunity to harass and threaten others. This is known as the Online Disinhibition Effect. The wikipedia definition is “> the loosening (or complete abandonment) of social restrictions and inhibitions that would otherwise be present in normal face-to-face interaction during interactions with others on the Internet. This effect is caused by many factors, including dissociative anonymity, invisibility, asynchronicity, solipsistic introjection, dissociative imagination, and minimization of authority“. How can we, as parents and teachers, battle this issue? Check out the link and register for the Cyberbullying Toolkit. Together, we can tackle cyberbullying so the cyberbullies “dont stand a chance”.
